What’s New in 2026

A New Era for The Hundred

The sixth season is the biggest shake-up yet — private investment, an IPL-style auction, and three rebranded teams have changed the competition’s identity.

First-Ever Player Auction

For the first time, players were signed through a live auction held in London on 11–12 March 2026, replacing the old draft. The women’s auction ran on day one, the men’s on day two.

IPL-Linked Ownership

Investors tied to IPL franchises took stakes in four teams. Three were renamed — Oval Invincibles became MI London, Northern Superchargers became Sunrisers Leeds, and Manchester Originals became Manchester Super Giants.

Higher Stakes & Reserve Days

Salary pots rose sharply and overseas slots increased from three to four per team. New reserve days for the eliminator and final mean the trophies are decided on the pitch, rain or shine.

Host Grounds

The Hundred 2026 Venues

Eight of England and Wales’ most famous cricket grounds host the action, with the final staged at the Home of Cricket, Lord’s.

Complete Guide

The Hundred 2026: The Complete Guide

The Hundred is the only professional cricket competition in the world played in the 100-ball format. Launched by the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) in 2021, it was designed to be fast, simple and welcoming to new fans, with men’s and women’s teams sharing equal billing through double-headers. The 2026 edition is the sixth season — and the most transformative to date.

Quick answer: The Hundred 2026 runs from 21 July to 16 August 2026 across England and Wales. Eight teams play 68 matches (34 men’s, 34 women’s). The season opens with a double-header at the Kia Oval and ends with Finals Day at Lord’s.

How the 100-ball format works

Each team faces exactly 100 balls per innings. Bowlers deliver in sets of five or ten consecutive balls and may bowl a maximum of 20 balls in total. A 25-ball powerplay opens each innings, and a strategic timeout is available to each side. The result is a sharp, high-energy contest that finishes in around two and a half hours — roughly the length of a football match.

The 2026 shake-up: auction, owners and rebrands

The biggest change for 2026 is structural. Following major private investment, players who were not retained were signed through the competition’s first live auction, held in London in March 2026. Four franchises are now part-owned by groups with stakes in IPL teams, and three changed their names as a result: Oval Invincibles became MI London, Northern Superchargers became Sunrisers Leeds, and Manchester Originals became Manchester Super Giants. Southern Brave, also IPL-backed, kept its original name. Birmingham Phoenix and London Spirit attracted US-based investment, while Trent Rockets and Welsh Fire retained a UK/mixed ownership.

Tournament format and the road to Lord’s

The group stage features 64 matches, with each team playing four games at home and four away — one against every other side plus a bonus derby against its nearest regional rival. After the group stage, the top three teams reach the knockouts: the second and third-placed sides meet in the eliminator on 14 August, and the winner faces the league leaders in the final at Lord’s on 16 August. Reserve days protect both knockout matches from the weather.
